Kubko
“Hello, our story is about lost and found.
My husband and I tried to have a baby for several years. We didn’t address the problem and stopped
going to family gatherings just to avoid the question of when we were going to start a family. My
doctor kept assuring me that everything was fine.
The years flew by, and we didn’t have the courage for artificial insemination, even though we both
suspected it would be the only way. We had no idea what the process would look like; information
wasn’t as accessible back then, though I read a few things on discussion forums. My husband didn’t
even want to hear about doing a spermiogram. I can’t remember what finally convinced us or how we
ended up at SPLN.
Our doctor was Dr. Hredzák, who explained everything to us very simply and concisely. Luckily, my
husband only had to visit once—they froze his sperm, and he didn’t need to go back. He used to wait
for me in the car in the parking lot; I think he took it harder than I did. We only had 3 embryos, and it
worked on the very first try. Our son Kubko was born, and he will soon be 13 years old. He plays
sports, loves riding his bike, and adores both of his parents. These are our ‘founds.’
The loss is the cooling of our relationship. We got divorced last year, we no longer live together, and
we haven’t settled all of our affairs yet. However, when it comes to Jakub, his upbringing, and his
future, we agree on everything. That is because between us, there is still that shared secret of how
we brought our child into the world.”
