Jana

“My name is Jana, I am 39 years old, and my partner and I wanted to start a family ‘someday later’.
I don’t mean focusing on a career, the way they write about it in magazines. We had a wonderfully
happy relationship, shared hobbies, traveled, played sports, ate healthy, and dedicated time to
ourselves and our friends. Then, sometime in the future, we intended to have children.

Six years ago, my doctor surprised me during a routine check-up when she diagnosed me with an
ovarian cyst. It grew unusually fast and was causing me discomfort. I underwent a procedure at the
hospital, where I shared a room with a woman who wasn’t even 28 yet and was there due to
infertility. That’s when it clicked. The fear that this could happen to me, too. About half a year later,
we visited a specialized clinic; my partner’s spermiogram was rated close to an A, and I was healthy.
Yet, the baby was not coming.

Somewhere online, we learned that the best clinics were in the Czech Republic. So, we started
traveling for a baby—380 km there, 380 km back. To the question of why we weren’t succeeding,
even the clinic in the Czech Republic couldn’t find an answer. When they explained how IVF
treatment works, I didn’t want to be 380 km away from my doctor.

Suddenly, the Czech Republic came to me. We found information online that a Czech IVF specialist
was working at the SPLN Sanatorium in Košice! The journey to see him took only 45 minutes; he was
in good spirits and explained the entire procedure to us. It brought us peace of mind when he
confirmed that the methods in Slovakia were of the same high quality as those in the Czech Republic.
More than all the methods in the world, what personally helped me the most was his composure, a
bit of humor, and a positive attitude. The hormonal stimulation went smoothly, as did the egg retrieval. Our Natálka was born, and with the very first labor pains, I remembered Dr. Poláček asking
me with a smile how I was going to give birth if I was afraid of giving myself an injection…

We also congratulate SPLN on its anniversary! I am writing to you with a slight delay because I caught
your announcement late. You see, we are wandering the world again—only now as a complete
family.”
