Donation program

The gamete donation program is intended for couples who, due to health problems, do not have their own sperm/oocytes, or whose quality is very low. The role of our facility is to provide such couples with verified donated gametes or embryos that are intended for donation.

The donation of gametes is carried out on the basis of a donation agreement concluded between the donor and the recipient – the SPLN assisted reproduction center. The donor provides the donated gametes to an infertile couple on the basis of confirmed consent to the use of donor sperm/oocytes.

Egg (oocyte) donation

For some women, receiving donated eggs is their only chance to have a child. The most common causes of infertility include: premature ovarian failure, poor egg quality, genetic diseases, surgical removal of both ovaries, or chemotherapy/radiotherapy as part of cancer treatment. By donating eggs, you can help infertile couples fulfill their greatest desire- to become parents.

Who can be a donor?

  • Age 18-32
  • BMI less than 28
  • Good health, no serious illnesses (including psychiatric disorders)
  • No genetic diseases in the family
  • Negative tests for sexually transmitted diseases: AIDS (HIV), hepatitis B and C, syphilis, HIV
  • Does not regularly consume alcohol or drugs (including marijuana)
  • Is not breastfeeding, pregnant, or has recently terminated a pregnancy

How does it work?

If a potential donor meets the conditions and wants to help, she needs to make an appointment for a consultation at info@spln.eu or by filling out the contact form. Our coordinator will contact her and arrange a personal meeting where the entire process will be explained in detail. She will undergo a consultation with a doctor, gynecological examinations, and blood tests to rule out sexually transmitted, infectious, and genetic diseases. Based on the results, she will then be entered into the donor database. The next step involves controlled ovarian stimulation, which lasts 8-10 days. The donor can administer the medication herself at home. During stimulation, a control ultrasound examination, known as folliculometry, is performed. Follicle growth is monitored to determine the correct day for egg retrieval. The retrieval itself is performed under short-term anesthesia. After 2-3 hours, the patient leaves for home accompanied by someone.

Sperm donation

Couples can request donated sperm in cases of severe sperm disorders in the partner, absence of sperm in the ejaculate, low sperm quality, failure of assisted reproduction methods, or if the man is a carrier of a genetic disease that could be passed on to the child. Before the procedure, applicants for donated sperm fill out a questionnaire for donor selection, in which they also indicate the physical characteristics of their partner – his phenotype.

Sperm donors obtained from a sperm bank

Our assisted reproduction center cooperates with several international tissue banks and has a large database of donors, which allows us to respond flexibly to the needs of our clients. Donors are young men who must undergo genetic testing and laboratory tests for infectious and sexually transmitted diseases. Sperm is stored in quarantine for a period of 180 days, after which blood tests are performed again. Only if the results are negative can the sperm be used. Supplier sperm banks guarantee that all tests are negative. Sperm donation is anonymous, and a suitable donor is selected based on a questionnaire focusing on appearance, blood type, and the couple’s wishes.
