A basic spermiogram includes the volume, appearance, viscosity and pH of the ejaculate, the number, motility and shape (morphology) of the sperm and the number of other cells present in the ejaculate (leukocytes, immature sperm, epithelial cells).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Basic parameters of a normal spermiogram according to WHO:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Volume of ejaculate- more than 1.4 ml<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sperm concentration- more than 16 million per millilitre (millilitre\/ml)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Total sperm count- more than 39 million sperm per ml.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Total motility- more than 42%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Progressive movement- more than 30%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Morphology- more than 4 % of morphologically normal spermatozoa<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leucocytes- less than 1 million\/ml<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sample is collected after 3-4 days of sexual abstinence in a sterile disposable container, in a special separate room. The presence of a female partner, if desired, is a matter of course with us. It is not necessary to make an appointment for a <strong>basic ejaculate examination<\/strong>. We will examine you at any time during working days. You will receive the result of the examination within seven working days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In case of antibiotic treatment or illness accompanied by fever, it is advisable to postpone the examination for at least 6 weeks after the end of treatment or fever resolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also possible to use <strong>pre-frozen sperm <\/strong>to fertilise the eggs, for example, in the absence of a partner on the day of the egg collection. Cryopreservation of sperm is also recommended before chemotherapy, which can irreversibly damage the sperm-forming epithelium. In the absence of sperm in the ejaculate, it is possible to try to retrieve sperm surgically from the epididymis (MESA) or testis (TESE); sperm obtained in this way can also be frozen.
