Intracytoplasmic sperm injection
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is the most widely used micromanipulation technique used in the treatment of infertility through the IVF method. It is the method of first choice of fertilization of the ovum for the treatment of male infertility, but also for other indications. In the ICSI, the embryologist selects a single sperm that is sucked into the micro-pipette and injected directly into the ovum cytoplasm. The only possible criterion for the sperm selection in the ICSI is the sperm morphology and the nature of its movement.
